As the new commander, Colonel Norman is responsible for providing Air Force leaders at all levels the tools to identify essential manpower required to effectively accomplish the Air Force mission. He arrives with many decades of experience seeking to maximize manpower resources, all with a focus on accomplishing the Air Force mission. "It is truly an honor to be trusted with command of AFMA," Colonel Norman said. "I am so proud to become a part of this AFMA team, which continues a legacy set forth by our Air Force leaders -- leaders like Gen. Curtis Lemay, who articulated his vision of a manning validation system for the U.S. Air Force, and the insights of Maj. Gen. Benjamin O. Davis Jr., who sought for better resource management through more economy, more scientific progress and more defense for the dollar. The colonel said the Air Force is in the midst of a demanding time as it restructures and engages in comabt at the same time. "Air Force is built on innovation, and core to that foundation is maximum utilization of all resources," Colonel Norman said. "AFMA continues to make a huge contribution in these efforts by providing critical tools to Air Force leaders to ensure we maximize our work force. "I am eagerly looking forward to working these timeless challenges together with the AFMA team and the commanders and functionals at the helm of our Air Force today. I am confident, together in partnership, we can be both dreamers and doers as good stewards of what has been provided to us." Colonel Norman, a native of Columbia, Mo., comes to AFMA from Air Force headquarters in Wash., D.C., where he served as the deputy director for Plans and Integration, Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower and Personnel. In this capacity, he was responsible for shaping Air Force institutional strategy. During the past year, Colonel Norman was the Air Force's Force Support Joint Capability Area Champion. In that position, he engaged the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Joint stakeholders, and prepared Air Force senior leaders for key planning, programming and budgeting decisions regarding stewardship of the $190 billion force support portfolio in the future-year defense program. "I'm excited to be here at Randolph and extremely pleased to lead the great group of AFMA professionals," the colonel said. AFMA is a field operating agency that reports directly to the Air Force Directorate of Manpower, Organization and Resources.
